TONIGHT 11/27: LAWRENCE ARABIA IN-STORE 7pm

Hey guys! Hope you're having a killer Tuesday, and if you aren't, Origami can fix that, because we've got New Zealand songwriter/producer Lawrence Arabia coming through at 7pm tonight!

Lawrence Arabia, a.k.a. James Milne, is coming to us fresh off of the release of his highly acclaimed album "The Sparrow"(Bella Union). With "The Sparrow," Milne wanted to stray away from using modern tools of music production due to their overwhelming nature, and found inspiration in: "...the mystique and aesthetic limitations of...late-sixties and early-seventies records where there was so much space in the arrangements and [where] you can really luxuriate in the sounds of individual instruments.” With tracks like "The Listening Times" and "Bicycle Racing," you really start to understand that relationship between space and instrumentation that Milne tries to achieve, and if you don't believe me, give a listen below and show up tonight at 7!

Don't forget Lawrence Arabia is playing The Mint on 11/28!

TONIGHT 11/25: Circuit des Yeux in store 7pm

Come on down to Origami tonight at 7pm to hear the hypnotizing experimental sounds of Circuit des Yeux!

Circuit des Yeux (Magnetic South) is the musical endeavor of 22 year old Indiana native Haley Fohr. Fohr has been making music under the moniker Circuit des Yeux for three years now, but her career as a musician spans back to her days as a child where she studied the classics. By her teenage years she taught herself how to play guitar while also taking vocal lessons, and it was during this time that she became consumed with the blues and punk rock. Her music "...accesses the core of the blues, channeling currents of pain and awareness through punk’s transits of honesty and directness with her deep, multihued voice and unwavering expression."

If I haven't convinced you to come down to the shop tonight , then take a listen to "Helen, You Bitch" off of her upcoming 10" "CDY3," and get convinced.

TONIGHT: VUM in-store 7pm! 11/24

SATURDAY! SATURDAY! SATURDAY! Are you ready brother?! Are ya? Cuz Los Angeles based group VUM is going to be stoping by le chateau de Origami at 7 PM!

Vum (Secret Lodge) hails from the mean streets of Topanga Canyon, CA, and if you want to get trippy, then these are the guys for you. Kind of like a western/psych version of Beach House, their last album, "Night Sun," was "Recorded in the canyons of the West Coast and the jungles of the South Pacific...[and] is soaked in Vum's unique brand of cinematic noir featuring deep, powerful vocals, psychedelic guitars, dark wave synths, and thumping Suicide-esque drum machines..." They just released a new 7" for "Are You Animal/Laura Palmer" so give it a listen, ya dork.

Now that you listened to the song and you love it, come down to Origami tonight at 7 pm to be one with VUM.

His most recent LP Get Your Burdens Lifted, alongside his earlier album Moon Rocks and a self-titled release, released under Guns in the Sun, are a blend of folk-driven, indie and garage rock sounds, with a simplicity of sound that help ground in an appreciation for his cosmic lyricism and a dreamy landscape of melodic sounds.

FRIDAY: TYPHOON in-store acoustic set at 4PM!

Hey there!

Join us this Friday, November 16th at 4PM as Typhoon plays a FREE, special in-store acoustic performance before their show later Friday night at the Echo!  What could be better?  Get close and personal with Typhoon during their special acoustic set at Origami, maybe grab some pizza and beer next door afterwards, and then mosey on down a few yards to the Echo for their full set complete with trumpets, strings, tambourines, and warm arrangements that this gem of a band is known for.

Typhoon is an Oregon-based band consisting of a group of friends who create songs that they claim "ought to be burned or buried" for being so personal.  Packing the stage with more than ten members of the band at once during shows, Typhoon's live sets are something of a spectacle--this band turns "what starts out as solemn, solitary [experience]...into something both communal and cathartic."

Don't miss this FREE in-store acoustic performance! Their show at the Echo is not free, BUT you can buy tickets at Origami before you enjoy their in-store performance (so convenient)!  How often do you get to see both the raw, stripped down acoustic side AND the plugged-in, live chaos of a band--all in ONE night? Yeah, so...see you Friday at 4!

In the meantime, check out this video of Typhoon's live performance of "Common Sentiment" at WFUV and get pumped for tomorrow...I assure you, your ears will be pleased.

TONIGHT: Sunbeam Rd. in-store 7pm!

Ohhhh have you ever seen a vinyl that pretty? Just imagine how the band sounds! WELL ya don't have to imagine because Sunbeam Rd. is playing in the flesh at Origami Vinyl tonight at 7pm!

This Bay Area band creates "a tense and expansive sound via psychedelic guitars, purposeful melodies, and restraint. Willing to fall apart completely exploring the margins of harmonic rock, their live shows can toe the edge of cacophony. At their best they reach into hook-laden, fuzz-saturated trance states." With the new release of their debut LP Breathers, you can bet your bottom dollar Sunbeam Rd. will be at their best tonight! Get frisky with "Pro Wave Rider" and roll by to celebrate the release of Breathers with these experimental/psych/pop homies.
