PREMIERE PARTY: Mariachi El Bronx "III" TONIGHT @ 7 PM

We can't wait for the new Mariachi El Bronx album, and we are stoked to be having the Premiere Party here at OV!

Mariachi El Bronx, local Angelinos, have been around forever, and their new album shows that they aren't going anywhere. Previously known as The Bronx, this punk group has put a spin on their old style, and boy, do we like it. The ex-punks have been nothing but successful since they put on their Charro outfits, and have been redefining traditional Mexican music for everyone.

Titled, Mariachi El Bronx (III), the band's album is set to release on Nov. 4th from ATO Records, and judging from the singles they have released, it won't be disappointing. The band has changed things up with the new album, and as they reach maturity as a group their songs are beginning to confront "a lot of dark things" according to the frontman Matt Caughthran. Not only did Mariachi El Bronx change up their lyrics, but they also combined some electronic sounds with the old classic acoustic instrumentals.

If you stop by for the Premiere Party tonight, not only will you get to hear great new music, but OV will also be raffling off tickets to their show at the El Rey on Nov. 5th. So hurry up and get here already!!

OV WEEKLY: Best Week Of The Year? Best Week Of The Year.

Remember how awesome it was when you received full-size candy bars for Halloween? That's what OV Weekly is. Try not to get too fat on what we've got this week!

Monday, October 27th
Dream Boys Monday Night Residency @ The Echo!

Independent music from the west coast of Scotland has always had a kinship with psychedelic pop music from the west coast of America. Orange Juice loved The Byrds, Teenage Fanclub wanted to be in Buffalo Springfield, the Pastels adored the Electric Prunes. Dream Boys are a modern day trans atlantic love affair realized. Consisting of 3 Americans and 1 Scotsman, their songs have the spirit of postcard records filtered through the rural haze of the paisley underground. Their songs float around the notion of time and space, love and heartbreak, the highs and lows with a range of emotion and introspection. One can’t imagine these songs coming from any other band or from any other time other than now. These songs are psychedelic in the truest sense, a californian sun rises on a Glasgow street, rain fall during an indian summer, Dream Boys’ music lies somewhere in between this musical dream, in love with pop music with a sincerity unmatched.

Craving some more Mariachi El Bronx since their awesome performance at FYF? Well then look no further than OV this Wednesday when we premiere Mariachi El Bronx's newest LP right at OV!

Mariachi El Bronx, local Angelinos, have been around forever, and their new album shows that they aren't going anywhere. Previously known as The Bronx, this punk group has put a spin on their old style, and boy, do we like it. The band has changed things up with the new album, and as they ponder maturity as a group their songs are beginning to confront "a lot of dark things" according to the frontman Matt Caughthran. Not content to merely change up their lyrics, the band also combines some electronic sounds to go alongside their classic mariachi instrumentals. We can't wait to hear what the record sounds like and hope you can roll on through to hear it with us!

To make things even sweeter, if you stop by for the Premiere Party tonight, not only will you get to hear great new music, but OV will also be raffling off tickets to their show at the El Rey on Nov. 5th! It's a night you don't want to miss!

Saturday, November 1st
Amason In-Store @ 7PM!

Amason is stopping by OV tonight at 7 PM for a post-Halloween treat, and believe us you want to be here. The sweet Swedes of Amason have been making music together since late 2012, and ever since the release of their self-entitled EP in August of 2013 people have been begging for an album. We will all have to wait a little longer for their debut album Sky City, which is set to release worldwide in early 2015.

But, to tide us over in the meantime, the band has just released the single "Duvan" on Fairfax Recordings and INGRID, and man, do we want more. Amanda, the female vocalist, has a soothing retro vibe, mixed with just the right amount of synth while being supported by catchy beats and soothing vibes that will calm you right down after a long day. The sound is sultry, and inviting. Amason has created a wonderful and enticing concoction, especially with the combination of English and Swedish lyrics, that is very unique to the scandinavian five-piece. All of the members have their own very impressive musical talents and projects, but when they get together, Amason is a force to be reckoned with.

You WILL regret it if you miss this one! Catch them stateside while you can!

Now that we've planned your week, you better share some of the candy haul with us. We're always hungry.

OV PRESENTS: Fever The Ghost + Talk In Tongues TONIGHT @ The Echo!

Tonights the night! At 9PM, OV will be presenting an awesome duo of bands at The Echo - Fever The Ghost & Talk In Tongues! We've been all about these two local acts since their inception and can't wait to see what they bring to the Echo!

First up on the bill, L.A locals Talk In Tongues have taken a rather circuitous route to their current organization. At the beginning, each member fell into place from other bands falling apart, and even then, the band had little musical common ground. But rather quickly, it all came together, with their lead single "Still Don't Seem To Care" bursting onto the scene and lighting up blogs everywhere, even making it to the front page of Noisey. With their heady pop-psych sound shining through, Talk In Tongues moved on to recording their full length album, and tonight's the night to get that perfect sneak peek! We've been big fans of Talk In Tongues since "Still Don't Seem To Care" and can't wait to see what they do tonight in support of Fever The Ghost!

Speaking of psych-pop bursts, Fever The Ghost know how to get things churning quick. Born under the Swell Swan corporation last year, they too took a quick path to notoriety with "Rounder," moving up bills as quickly as they conjured up psychedelic bliss. Anchored by strong hooks and the powerful synergy of members Casper, Bobby, Mason & Nick-O, Fever The Ghost have just about everywhere this year, touring behind their Crab In Honey EP and wowing audiences with their electric live shows, which somehow seem to top the carnage of their official releases. Both bands are, to paraphrase Hansel from Zoolander, pretty hot right now. So you better see them dude, cause this much heat ain't gonna combine too many more times!

Blowing up the Echo TONIGHT, we are so stoked to be presenting this awesome bill of L.A hotshots and hope to see you getting crazy with us! To get your blood flowing in preparation, check both bands' singles below and get ready for some kickass music courtesy of The Echo and OV!

La Femme @ The Echoplex!

Looking for something different this Thursday night? Then look no further than La Femme tonight at the Echoplex! European stars and purveyors of an indescribable mix of surf, Kraftwerk, Francoise Hardy and the B-52s, La Femme matches grim beats with bubbly rhythms that are exactly what cool-kid Halloween is all about. It's like Stereolab doing the theme song for The Addams Family. (Now that's a collab that needs to happen). Anyways, La Femme is really hard to pin down, but you're gonna want to be there. Emily made sure I included this one via a caps-locked email. So you know she'll be at The Echo dancing the night away.

Friday, October 24th
Mineral @ The Roxy!

20 years later and here we are. Crying our eyes out to Mineral. But it's the good kind, cause holy cow, MINERAL IS PLAYING IN L.A! One of the most important emo bands of all time is back and tonight's your night to see them play "Gloria" live. What more could you want from a Friday night? I mean sure maybe some happier feelings, but I promise you, Mineral is better than that! We shouldn't really have to convince you on this one, so here's The Power of Failing in full. Meet us in the back - we'll give you a shoulder to cry on homie.

Saturday, October 25th
Afternoons In-Store @ 7PM! Festival Supreme! Steen's Birthday EEEEEE!

Afternoons have a strange story. They burst onto the L.A scene in 2008 with their hit song "Say Yes" and had Shepard Fairey on their list of fans, designing them a poster and pushing their name into bigger and bigger conversations. Then a tour followed and Afternoons we're on everybody's lips. But then, big name management came in and messed things up with the requisite creative meddling and an unnecessary, unheralded name change. And just like that, much of the original mystique and momentum was lost. But now Afternoons is back six years on, ready to take back the music world as they left it. Working from the musical vision they had all along, Afternoons returns with Say Yes, the album they had originally planned to release and the one L.A has been asking for all along. It's a whirlwind tale, and we desperately want to see it played out live, so we're super pumped to see these ghosts of 2008 return to out loft this Saturday night!

Also it's freaking Festival Supreme this weekend.  This year’s one-day extravaganza includes 40 of today’s most talented musicians and comedians taking over The Shrine Auditorium for a riotous event of SUPREME proportions! It's bigger and better than ever. Tenacious D's reaction to the news? "Put that in your pipe and smoke it!" So do that.

Speaking of which, if you're looking for free tickets, you might wanna tag us in an Insta post of your favorite act at Festival Supreme. That might score you a ticket maybe. But you didn't hear that from us.

P.S HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEEN!!!!

Now that we've planned your week, you better be putting the finishing touches on the OV jack-o-lantern we've always wanted..

IN-STORE: Girl Tears & Corey + The Castaways TONIGHT @ 6PM!

Looking to get wild? Then OV's your stop tonight at 6PM when Girl Tears take over the loft with Corey + The Castaways!

Disciples to the holy temple of the 1:00 punk song, Girl Tears mix razor-sharp guitars with surprising harmony, crafting fast and catchy songs like nobody's business. These L.A locals have been churning around the scene for the better part of a year, and with the release of their new album Tension, Girl Tears are looking to move into the big time. We love their 70s/80s punk influences and can't wait to see them tear up the loft tonight at 6!

Supporting Girl Tears, Corey of Terry Malts returns to the OV loft to lay down his catchy drone-y surf rock. We loved this homie last time he played and are excited to see what his Castaways add to the mix. Touring in support of his newest single, "Down Again" come check out Corey and Girl Tears tonight at OV! See you soon!

Catapulted to stardom after a unexpected BNM from Pitchfork, Mutual Benefit's widescreen orchestral folk locates the grandiose in the minuscule, equal parts Andrew Bird and Sufjan Stevens. Rounding out your workweek, Polica takes the stage at The Roxy in support of their excellent 2013 album Shulamith. Reworking their art-rock R&B to more experimental ends, Shulamith opened up Polica to their fullest potential, as evidenced by the strength of their most recent tour. Busting out in a big way, Polica are poised to take the next step tonight at The Roxy, and you bet we're gonna be there in support! The show gets started at 8PM!

IN-STORE: Lower Plenty & Ela Stiles TODAY @ 3PM!

We are beyond excited to have Lower Plenty & Ela Stiles play our loft today at 3pm!

By now you're probably well aware of Aussie rock outfits Total Control & Dick Diver; Lower Plenty is the brainchild of members of the aforementioned bands, and also includes members of The UV Race, Exhaustion, & Deaf Wish. Their music has been described as “beautifully melancholy suburban-country music that’s made while sitting around the kitchen table," and their third full-length album, Life/Thrills, has become a favorite of everyone at OV. So make sure to come through and check out them out! In the meantime, you can watch their new music video for "Life/Thrills" here:

Opening for Lower Plenty, Ela Stiles is a singer-songwriter born from Sydney's often strange and varied music scene. Moving beyond her work in local favorites Songs, she became a driving force in Melbourne outfit Bushwalking, releasing two records with the band while still based in Sydney and working on numerous projects. Today Ela Stiles is touring with Lower Plenty in support of her new self-titled album and we can't wait to see what these two Aussies brew up in out loft! The fun gets started at 3PM!
